11 best ottoman storage beds for a clutter-free bedroom in 2026
Best ottoman beds 2026
When it comes to making your home look and feel tidy, good storage solutions make all the difference. In houses of every size, people battle with tricky small spaces, little storage and trying to keep their rooms clutter-free. Enter the ottoman bed: designed to help with just that problem. Unlike regular double bed frames or single beds, these are beds with designated storage space underneath them, offering you a useful, multipurpose space. It's like having two pieces of furniture in one. Ottoman spaces have more room to store things than divan beds, and the storage is often more discreet too due to the simple lift-up of the mattress and slatted base, rather than having visible drawers on the sides.
There are some really lovely ottomans out there too, so there's no need to worry that a storage bed will look ugly or clunky. In most cases, you can't even tell the difference between an ottoman and a standard bed frame. Some of them sit a little higher to allow for the space in the base, but actually we think a high bed is rather smart and adds a hotel-like sensibility to the bedroom. Once your bed becomes a designated spot for storing as well as sleeping, you won't look back.
Our criteria for the best ottoman bed frames:
Each brand we've included is one that our team would shop themselves, and we've prioritised quality, value for money, durability, and of course, the most important factor of all, design. We've also included ottoman and divan beds to suit every budget, and ideally to suit different aesthetics and homes.
What are the best ottoman storage beds to buy in 2026?
Best affordable ottoman bed: Dusk Ascot Bed Frame
We've been recommending Dusk's Ascot bed for about five years now, and with at least a couple of team members now sleeping on one themselves, we can definitely confirm it is one of the best value beds on the market. It's durable, beautiful and comes in any colour you could ever want or need a bed frame in. The only downside? It can be a bit of a pain to build, but once it's in position, you're all good to go.
Christabel's verdict: ‘The ottoman storage element has been a life-saver. It is deceptively roomy and has allowed me to keep spare sheets, pillows, mini suitcases and other mess accumulated over time firmly out of sight. But the best thing about the bed? It is a brilliantly robust and sturdy thing, and I am a complete Dusk convert. Despite my lifting the top of the bed several times a week to access whatever it is I might need underneath it, the hinges have never given way. The slats which hold the mattress haven’t shifted either (a problem I have had with previous beds, and which has caused more angst than I could possibly describe) and the overall frame remains as fixed and supportive as it was on the first day it was assembled.’
Best ottoman bed for design: Westwing Dream Upholstered Bed
Available in 12 colours, as well as corduroy and bouclé options, the Dream bed nicely balances practicality with considered design details like the plush headbord and exaggerated stitched edges. The clean, angular-yet-cosy design is ideal for minimalists, while the range of fabrics means it will be a breeze to find a colour that works in an existing scheme. Free fabric samples can be sent out free of charge, so you can consider the different options before taking the plunge. At less than £900 for a double, we think it's reasonably priced.
Best ottoman bed with legs: Nina Campbell Lowndes Upholstered Ottoman
It is unusual to find an ottoman bed with legs - from our list, you'll see that most sit very low to the floor. This addition makes the Lowndes design, from interiors legend Nina Campbell, look and feel tall in an impressive, stately way - particularly once topped off with a mattress and bedding. If you have low ceilings, this is something to bear in mind, but for high-ceilinged bedrooms or those who just prefer a taller bed, it's a great option from the high street. There's still masses of room in the base for keeping items like towels, clothes or bedding, so the inclusion of legs does not affect the amount of storage space. We love the striking marine blue colour, but it also comes in off-white with terracotta piping.
Tilly's verdict: ‘I searched high and low for an ottoman bed with legs, so that I could easily hoover beneath (or store even more things in shallow storage boxes!). This was undoubtedly the best one I came across in terms of balances practicality with design: the blue fabric with contrasting white piped edges looks really smart, and, I think, more expensive than it is. The dark wooden legs are capped with gold metal, another lovely design detail, while the discreet plastic guards beneath ensure your floor won't scratch if you need to move it. There's a strap to help lift the mattress and slatted base, which is rather hefty to pull up and push back down, but manageable. One downside with Next is that, in my experience, delivery can be highly unpredictable - my bed was delayed twice before it arrived, so bear this in mind if you're in a rush.’
Best luxury ottoman bed: Heal's Pillow Storage Bed
The oversized, inviting plush pillow headboard, the high quality fabric options (which include leather and a cotton-linen blend) - Heal's have crafted a sumptuous storage bed for those willing to invest in a luxury piece of furniture that will last for years to come. We also love that it's on little legs, raising it slightly from the floor. The storage is discreet, and the stylish design means that it isn't immediately obvious that this is an ottoman bed. And if you love the design but decide you don't want it with storage beneath, you can also order it as a standard frame without storage. Starting from over £3,000, it is very expensive, reflecting the quality of materials and craftsmanship.
Best value ottoman bed: John Lewis Emily Ottoman Storage Upholstered Bed Frame
With clean lines and practical design, this bed frame has a rather timeless feel. Sprung slats provide the best possible support for your mattress, whilst hydraulic arms and a handle allow you to easily access the storage underneath. There are an impressive 21 different upholstery options, mostly versatile neutrals, with a particularly fetching olive green and some moody blues thrown in for good measure. For under £600 for a double, we think it's brilliant value for money. And if you run into any issues with the bed or delivery of it, John Lewis' customer service remains as reliable as ever.
Best luxury ottoman bed: Simba St Ives Bed
There's plenty of variation among Simba's range of bed frames, but the St Ives is easily our favourite design. Its high, cushioned feature headboard has a striking visual appeal, while Simba's genuinely impressive innovation makes it durable and ultra-functional. It starts with the sprung slatted base, which Simba claims supports air circulation and comfort, incorporates the protective internal floor and gas lift struts, and even comes complete with VIP delivery and assembly for a small fee to save you any hassle of putting it together. It's hard to think of a space this cream design wouldn't complement, especially if you're after a minimalist, sleek vibe.
Button & Sprung is one of the best traditional furniture stores in London, opposing mass-production business models where thousands of the same bed are churned out, with everything instead available for customisation, and every detail being taken into consideration. Start by ordering your fabric samples, and then you can begin building your own bed, making selections on fabric samples, drawers, how you want your storage to be set up, so on and so forth. The Rose is one of our favourite bed designs Button & Sprung has with a high, Rococo-influenced headboard, and a wide range of fabrics available to upholster it with. Many ottoman beds are only available in a double size or larger, but we love that this one comes in a single - perfect for a spare or children's room.
Best wooden ottoman bed: Aspire Wooden Ottoman Bed
Wooden bed frames are total classics, but it's surprisingly difficult to find wooden frames that also incorporate underbed storage. Aspire's ottoman is one of the only ones we've found that gives this level of space, concealed with wooden panelling and easy to access. It's also available in white.
If there's one thing we've learnt from the past five years testing out mattresses, it's that mattress brands know a thing or two about innovation. They can create and design really functionally brilliant products, which this Origin bed frame is another example of. The frame is very well constructed, made with sustainable Canadian timber, FlexiSlats for comfort and a hydraulic bed base that lifts very seamlessly. The main downside is that it only comes in grey.
With five different sizes, tens of fabrics and a few foot options, this ottoman bed is the most customisable we've seen. You can also add a headboard (there are nine styles to choose from), so you can kit out your whole bed in one go.
This ottoman bed is as stylish as it is practical. With a large padded headboard and smart upholstery, its price belies the bed's smart look. If green is not your thing, fear not, as there are 10 colours available for this bed.
Which type of storage bed is best?
There are two main types of storage solution beds. The ottoman bed and the bed frame with hidden storage–also known simply as a 'bed frame with drawers'. Ottoman beds are purpose built to be hollow inside; the mattress is supported by slats, leaving a large storage compartment to keep things underneath, with the aim of having more floor space free. The lift mechanism is powered by gas lift hydraulics to make everything extremely light, the bed lifts up, either at the end or to one side. As ottoman beds lift upwards to open, you don't need any extra room space to accommodate them.
The other option is the bed frame with drawers. This one is self-explanatory–it is a divan bed with drawers under it for extra storage space. Do bear in mind that when you're measuring the space you want the bed to fill, you need to ensure you have space to open the drawers to their full width.
Are ottoman beds a good idea?
Yes, ottoman beds are a great idea! They are especially handy if you only want to access the items within it once or twice a year. Although it is easy to lift up, the ottoman bed can be a bit of a faff, so do consider that before picking between an ottoman and a bed with drawers. For daily to weekly use, we recommend a storage bed with drawers as they are much simpler to access.
Ottoman bed frames and storage beds are endlessly versatile. There's a wealth of choices of upholstery and finishes such as velvet fabric and wooden legs to choose from, and they're available in all sizes from single to super king, too. The practicality of an ottoman storage system doesn’t end in the bedroom though. They’re also perfect as footstools, coffee tables and even extra seating, where they can do the same space-saving task in the living room. What is the best place to buy an ottoman bed?
If you're on a tight budget, we'd advise going to affordable retailer Dusk to invest in an ottoman bed - they also sell mattresses and bedding, so if you're wanting those too, you can order everything together in one fell swoop. If you've not quite settled on what type of storage bed you'd like, take a look at John Lewis, where there's ottoman beds in a wide variety of styles, as well as divan options with drawers, instead of a lift-up mechanism. Likewise, Westwing has one of the most impressive ranges of storage beds we've come across, and is particularly great for contemporary designs. Think Japanese-inspired wooden bed frames and upholstered choices with soft-edged, minimalist silhouettes. For luxury storage beds, head to Heal's.
