Fans of the Gilmore Girls now have the chance to own a piece of television history. The house that served as Lorelai and Rory Gilmore's home in the pilot episode of the beloved 2000s comedy-drama has come onto the market with Century 21 for a $3.8 million asking price. According to Country & Town House, it is the first time the property has been offered for sale since making its television debut 26 years ago. The show then moved to a Hollywood backlot where the Gilmore duo moved to from episode two onwards.
Although the series is set in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, the house is actually in Unionville, Ontario, around 20 miles northeast of Toronto. Its role in the show was brief: after the pilot, production moved to the Warner Bros. backlot in Los Angeles, where the Gilmore family home was recreated for the remainder of the series.
Built in 1875, the two-storey house retains much of its Victorian character, with gabled roofs, a wraparound porch, white shutters and a teal-painted clapboard exterior. The three-bedroom property sits on a private plot overlooking a ravine, where mature hedges create a peaceful, secluded setting that feels worlds away from the bustle of everyday life.
Inside, the 2,840-square-foot home pairs period character with thoughtful updates. Alongside a renovated kitchen are a living room with a wet bar, a formal dining room and a home office, while a private deck has its own entrance. The basement also houses a self-contained guest suite with a bathroom. Original 19th-century features, including three fireplaces, wood-beamed ceilings, timber floors and the home's red-brick chimney, have all been carefully preserved.
Remarkably, the property has had just five owners since it was built. Since its brief appearance in the Gilmore Girls pilot at the turn of the millennium, it has largely remained out of the spotlight. According to Mansion Global, the current owner has held the property since 1994, using it primarily as a rental home.
