Members’ favourites: 14 hallway design ideas from members of the List
The hallway is one of the most overlooked spaces in our homes. An entrance hall often becomes a thoroughfare for coats and shoes, while hallways in other locations are seen as solely functional. But look a bit deeper, and you'll see that there is so much potential in these spaces. We've rounded up 14 hallway design ideas from members of our online design directory, The List by House & Garden.
Hallways are a great opportunity to play around with dramatic wallpaper. Whether that be a large-scale print or something bright and colourful, it can help draw your eye up the stairs. You'll find many examples in this gallery, from Lucy Cunningham’s cottage in Hampshire to Kris Turnbull's Victorian terraced house.
The same approach can be used when it comes to carpets. Studio Zaffre's project is a perfect example where the team decided to keep the walls neutral, allowing the bold carpet to be the room's focal point.
If space allows, it's also important to think about furniture. A console table is a great option as it creates a stylish spot to leave your keys and other small items without taking up too much space. A bench is also a nice choice. Ariel Okin has used both of these furniture pieces in her house in the New York City suburbs, providing a practical space to hang coats and take off shoes before entering other rooms in the house.
