Eagle-eyed readers of House & Garden might notice that Octavia and Harry’s bedroom is almost a carbon copy of their bedroom in their previous home – the flat featured in the October 2017 issue. And why not? ‘I used the same paint colour and fabric-covered headboard, because I love them so much,’ she says. The adjoining bathroom is papered in ‘Aspa’ in raspberry, an elegant confection of trailing pink foliage by Sarah Vanrenen for Penny Morrison. ‘I used slate around the vanity unit and bath to take the edge off of the prettiness’ she explains.

There are two spare rooms, one of which is intended for the couple’s new baby. Right at the top in his own little garret, is their two-year-old son Digby’s bedroom, which has Penny Morrison’s ‘Flowerberry’ wallpaper in petrol blue on the walls and ceiling. ‘The pattern is over the top and wonderfully all-enveloping to make up for the fact that it’s such a tiny room, so he won’t feel too hard done by.’ This is a house designed with colour and confidence at its core, in which Octavia has cleverly subverted the hallmarks of English decorating to create something pretty, fresh and just a little offbeat.
