As the evenings get darker and colder, it's only natural to start thinking about Christmas. And as many have learned the hard way, preparing early is key to avoiding, or at least mitigating, Christmas chaos. Luckily, Spirit of Christmas, London’s largest winter shopping event, is just around the corner. Taking place from November 2 to 8 at Olympia – which reopened this summer following a £1.3bn transformation – it is the perfect place to find gifts, decorations, and plenty of festive inspiration before holiday parties and the end of school term begin.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the fair welcomes over 600 stylish independent brands to Olympia's two halls. From artisan food and drinks for the culinary-inclined to homeware, jewellery and children's toys, you'll be sure to find a thoughtful gift for everyone on your list and probably a few things for yourself too.
Along with perusing the newest pieces from some of our favourite brands like Addison Ross, Graham & Green and Casa Latina, we're excited to explore the up-and-coming brands chosen for the Spirit Rising Stars section, which can be found on the gallery level. This selection truly only scratches the surface, however. We've learned through trial and error that Spirit of Christmas is best enjoyed as a day out with friends or family.
Shopping can be tiring work, so be sure to rest your feet and refuel at one of the event's lovely restaurants. After debuting at last year's edition, chef Kate Austen returns to the Spirit Restaurant with a delicious new all-day menu, including everything from light lunches and cream teas to comforting British classics. Elsewhere, you'll find three Louis Roederer Champagne bars where you can enjoy the finest cuvées accompanied by live music.
Speaking of sparkling wine, be sure to join House & Garden's Executive Editor Laura Normanton for a tipple on Tuesday, November 3 at 12pm, when she speaks with Wiston Estate's Brand Director Kirsty Goring about how they produce their award-winning wine – and what to pair it with. If you miss Laura's talk, have no fear. Lots of other tastemakers are participating in the fair's schedule of workshops and talks throughout the week. From wreath-making to tablesetting and gift-wrapping, you're sure to come away from Spirit of Christmas with much more than just gifts.
